[15 October until 8
January 2012]
Beauty is one of the notions that will always eschew
definition. Both its essence and its symptoms depend on the function of time and
space. Despite repeated attempts at describing or measuring beauty by applying
even maths equations to it, one thing appears certain: beauty is a matter of
impression, not comprehension.
The exhibition entitled "The beauty of touch" encourages the
visitors to feel it by appealing to various human senses. It allows them not
only to see the beauty, but also to touch it with their fingers. All the
displayed exhibits may be explored by means of touch. The exhibition is based on
the premises that it should be accessible to everyone regardless of their
cognitive dysfunctions. The exhibition is to be a bridge, a common space where
everyone is equally allowed to dwell with art.
The exhibition will present copies of the most famous
sculptures of the Antiquity, the classical Greek period and of the Renaissance
tradition that form a universal discourse concerning European art. A separate
sequence is formed by architectural models and volumetric models that make up a
crash course in the history of literature. The exhibition is complemented by a
presentation of good practices in the area of museum education for the blind and
partially sighted developed by the Tactile Museum in Ancona and the Silesian
Museum in Katowice.
The exposition is developed in collaboration with the Homer
State Museum for the Blind in Ancona as a part of the cultural programme
accompanying Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
