Edeltrauda Jerominek (1942-1999) came from Rokitnica. Since childhood, she
wanted to paint but in a traditional Silesian family it was unthinkable to study
at a secondary school of fine arts. Therefore, having graduated from a catering
college and having got married, she became a housewife and looked after her
children. However, she did not abandon her dreams about painting – when her
daughter Monika started to display a talent for plastic arts, she took care of
her development and attended an art room at the local community centre with her.
She painted with great passion – she confidently used patches, boldly
combined colours, tried to present in her paintings all of her sensitivity and
expression, cheerfulness and love for Silesia. The works of Edeltrauda Jerominek
soon gained recognition and her paintings were repeatedly awarded at
competitions and reviews.
The exhibition features Silesian landscapes – the author’s favourite motif –
colourful panoramas of Silesian cities, fragments of Bytom, Piekary and
Mysłowice as well as mines and mills in the industrial landscape. However,
Silesia presented by Jerominek is colourful, vibrant with life, bears no
resemblance to the stereotype of a dirty land unfriendly to man, Silesia that is
close to each inhabitant of that region.
